Filmmaker Sajid Khan made me touch his genitals: Sherlyn Chopra’s explosive claims

Sherlyn Chopra was allegedly sexually exploited by filmmaker Sajid Khan in 2005 (File)

Actor Sherlyn Chopra is the latest to accuse filmmaker Sajid Khan of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation. She has filed a police complaint against Khan in Mumbai.

“I didn’t have the courage earlier to file a complaint against a big name like him. After #MeToo, women stepped forward. He should be jailed,” Chopra told news agency .

I have recently filed a complaint against #MeToo-accused Sajid Khan for sexual exploitation, criminal force and criminal intimidation. The first thing that the police asked me was when this incident happened, to which I replied that it happened in 2005. They asked me why it took me so long to reach out to them. I said that back then I did not have the courage to file a sexual exploitation complaint against a big name like Sajid Khan,” she said.

“I got the courage after the 2018 MeToo movement when I saw and heard women share their horror stories,” she said.

“Anyone can read those media interviews or go on social media to know how #MeToo-accused Sajid Khan behaved inappropriately with those women. He asked some of them about sex, like how many times a day you have sex, how many boyfriends they have, and he showed me his genitals and made me touch them. The question that arises is, can a woman not share her pain even years after the incident? Obviously she can. Back then, I did not have the courage, but today I do. Today, I feel that be it Sajid Khan or Raj Kundra, if they have done wrong, I can raise my voice against them,” she told news agency

She also spoke about the evidence against Khan and said that even back then she “did not have any evidence against him because she didn’t carry a spy camera during a professional meeting with a director or producer”.

“So, if the police would have asked me about evidence, what could I have said? It would have been his words against mine. It all comes down to credibility and status. He is obviously much bigger than me. He is Farah Khan’s brother, who is close to Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. So what am I in front of him? I was just an outsider and a nobody. Then what way do I have to prove the truth?”

“I did tell my friends and close ones about it, but not my family, because I thought about what they would think about me. I had lost my father at the time. Hence, my family was already very disturbed and by telling them this I did not want to add to it. So, yes, whatever information I have and whatever witnesses there are, I am ready to present them. But if you ask me if I have it all on camera, then no, because we don’t carry a spy camera for professional meetings though these were causal meetings for him, a way to get what he wanted,” continued the actor.null

“But it is different that for Khan these were not professional meetings,” she added.

“Like how Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 23 years in jail, I want Sajid Khan to be jailed as well. The duration of his sentence would be decided by the judges keeping in mind the statements of all the women who have come out. I want the people of this country to understand that no accused, be they rich or poor, Sajid Khan or Raj Kundra, no one is above the law,” she said.

Meanwhile, Sajid Khan is currently a participant in the Salman Khan-hosted reality TV show ‘Bigg Boss 16’. Several people have demanded he be thrown out over charges of sexual misconduct. Singer Sona Mohapatra and actor Ali Fazal are among those who have objected to Sajid’s participation and demanded his removal.

Finding the inner gold

a visitor’s spiritual journey through Bhutan

Jigmi Wangdi

Karen Darke has been paralyzed from the chest down following a sea cliff climbing accident when she was only 21. She turned 51 this year.

A Paralympic Gold Medalist, para-triathlete, and author, Karen Darke has travelled the world despite her limitations. Karen was one of the many foreigners who entered Bhutan on September 23.

Karen and her team of nine other foreigners cycled from Paro to Bumthang. She said that it had been a lifelong dream to visit Bhutan.

I wanted to come to Bhutan 30 years ago when I first heard about it,” she said.

Ever since her recovery, Karen has been able to hand-cycle around many of the Himalayan ranges in countries such as Pakistan, India, and Nepal but never Bhutan.

“The fabric of Buddhism, of compassion and of kindness is so strong here and that makes it a special country, it is a privilege to be here,” she said.

She said that the USD 200 sustainable development fund was a very interesting module that would ensure Bhutan manage its foreign visitors while also serving as a means to increase the nation’s income.

“The SDF safeguards Bhutan’s unique identity that focuses on the values of sustainability and protection of the natural environment. For most people, it will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit,” she added.

Karen said that the values that the country is trying to promote are something that every Bhutanese embodies.

“Everywhere we’ve been you just feel like people care for each other, the environment and for nature. So it is very special for us to come and experience that,” she said.

Karen shared that she was able to feel the ‘High Value’ that the country wants foreigners to find when visiting.

“Where else do you get to sleep in a monastery with the monks and chant prayers at 4 in the morning with nuns and have dinner with a reincarnated Rinpoche,” she said. “It really has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

On the ‘happiness’ trail in Bhutan

The Trans Bhutan Trail passes through various monasteries and fortresses along its way. PIC COURTESY KEN SPENCE

It’s true that some of the world’s most gorgeous scenery is off-limits to all but those who lace up their boots and head into the wild. This is what I did after landing in Bhutan to walk the Trans Bhutan Trail after the country finally reopened for tourism on September 23.

The trail history

For hundreds of years, the Trans Bhutan Trail was an important trade, pilgrimage and communication route. In fact, until the 1906s when the national highway was constructed, it was the only way to travel across the country. For the first time in 60 years, the kingdom of Bhutan has opened this sacred hiking trail that traverses from Haa in the west of Bhutan to Trashigang in the east (near the Tibet border) and spans 403 km.

Hiking the entire trail takes about a month, but because it’s broken into sections you can choose the length of your hike. Day hike or multi-day journey, solo or with a group — there is something for every trekker. I chose a three-hour trek from Dochula Pass to Thingleygang to dip my toes into the trail. This section of the trail is considered one of the most beautiful, coursing through rhododendron forests and soaring trees whispering the ancient secrets of this mystical region. The colourful prayer flags tied to the trees add a spiritual dimension while the mighty Himalayas behind the veil of thick mists look like a spectacular painting. Though the hike isn’t technically difficult, I was soon breathless from the ascent and descent. After three hours and 30 minutes, a sloping pathway takes us to a small group of village houses built in the distinct Bhutanese style featuring carved timber windowpanes and wood-lined arched roofs. This is also the spot where our car for the onward journey is parked. The pleasantly exhausting day ends at a campsite with other hikers eager to swap stories and toast the day’s accomplishments.

A vacation beyond walks

The Trans Bhutan Trail is not just a series of endless treks but also involves Bhutan’s famous sights along the way. In Punakha, a visit to the Chimi Lhakhang (also known as the Fertility Temple) is on the itinerary. This revered place of magic and miracles is where women struggling to conceive are made to carry a wooden phallus around the temple three times. Then there is the Punakha Dzong arguably the most beautiful dzong in the country and one of the top three sights in Bhutan, the two others being the Tiger Nest Monastery and Dochula Pass. Access to the dzong is across through a suspension bridge and the entry is via steep wooden stairs. The massive gold statues of the Buddha, exceptional murals and courtyards studded with bodhi trees make this dzong one of the most impressive in Bhutan. Enthused by the success of my maiden trek in Bhutan, I attempted another one along the Trans Bhutan Trail — Simtokha to Hongtsho.

This one was epic mainly because of the scenery and the remoteness of the trek which was absolutely extraordinary. The well-marked trail is full of enchantment with plank walkways and bridges that cross swampy bogs and summer streams. But the thrills don’t come easy. The path is rocky, uneven and frequently steep. But giddying views of mystical streams, sculpted mountains and deep and silent lakes make it all worth the extreme fatigue that follows the next day. There’s a definite ‘Lost World’ feel to this hike full of character. The reward at the end of this four-hour trek is a Bhutanese picnic lunch in an apple orchard.

Food & accommodation

Scrumptious Bhutanese delicacies are a major highlight of the trail. Expect lots of ema datsi(which literally means chilli and cheese) with every meal and steamed and fried momos with Bhutanese chilli sauce ezay. Rice is omnipresent as also puta or buckwheat noodles. Puffed red rice called zaow dunked in savoury butter tea
is a national pastime. Stay options along the trail include campsites, heritage farmhouses, rural homestays and comfortable four-star hotels. No matter which part of the trail you choose to explore, you’re in for head-spinning views and tranquillity. Even the drive in between the treks is littered with rainbows! So dust off those hiking boots and hit the trail.

Bhutan fact file

Bhutan has only one airport, located in Paro. Two airlines Bhutan Airlines and Druk Air fly to Bhutan from Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai in India.

Indians visiting Bhutan will have to pay a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of Rs 1200 (US$15) per person per day. A pre-arranged guide, hotel accommodation and permits are essential. This can be arranged through a Bhutanese agent or independently.

The best months to visit Bhutan are March/April — for warm temperatures and stunning rhododendron blooms — and October/November — for clear Himalayan views and the most popular festivals.

There are various itineraries and packages to get a taste of the trail which starts from a week to a month to explore the entire length of the trail (403 km). Prices depend on the length of stay and accommodation chosen.

New Delhi: Actress, director, TV show host, and most importantly, an icon of grace in India – Simi Garewal had donned several hats on the professional front and been an icon in all. Now 75 (yes, 75), she is everything admirable but it seems that for her, the age clock stopped in the wee years itself. Yet, one can’t help but wonder how Simi Garewal managed to sustain the wow factor in her skin, hair and personality over the years. Turns out, it is credited to her workout regime, post-exercise rituals and love for fusion foods, the Blue Zone diet .

Read on to know the mini secrets to birthday girl Simi Garewal’s graceful ageing  over the years.

  1. Workouts followed by video games: In a 2014 interview, Simi Garewal revealed that she starts her workouts with a warm-up on a treadmill followed by exercise ball and Pilates for one hour every day. After workouts, the Do Badan actress plays video games till she is too exhausted to feel stressed.
  2. A night owl: While talking about her sleep ritual, she revealed that she is a night owl – one who likes to work in the quiet of the night like writing scripts, doing research and solving puzzles. She also said that her brain peaks when the world is slumber and then goes to bed at sunrise.
  3. No love for alcohol: Alcohol, an intoxicant, is often associated with the risk of high blood pressure, weight gain, cholesterol spike, fatty liver, cirrhosis and cancer. It is also known to speed up the pace of ageing – however, Garewal keeps away from that glass of wine by choice.
  4. Love for fusion food: In the interview, Garewal admitted to being a fan of fusion food – Thai, French and Italian. Italian food, specifically the diet of Sardinia comes under the Blue Zone diet, a regime that is strongly associated with longevity and a part of the world with the highest concentration of longest-living people. And one the diet front, while talking about her weekday breakfast, she shared that the meal includes lemon tea followed by almond honey flakes with almond milk and seasonal fruit.

Mika comes under fire for dancing with 12-year-old Riva Arora, netizens burst in anger

Fame is fickle – it is momentary and wanes as quickly as it rises. In such a scenario, youngsters today are in a mad rush to prove themselves, often leading to choices inappropriate for their age, especially in an industry like Bollywood. The latest to fall trap into the shining world of glamour seems to be 12-year-old Riva Arora, seen recently in a dance video with 45-year-old Mika Singh.

Riva is a child actor, best remembered for crying in a funeral scene in the movie URI in 2019 and playing a young Gunjan in Gunjan Saxena in 2020. Post that, Riva seemed to have worked hard and groomed herself for Bollywood as it is evident from her IG handle. However, she was recently seen in a dance video with Mika Singh that did not go down well with the masses. Netizens slammed the singer for romantically dancing with a girl young enough to be his daughter. Riva’s parents also came under the fire for encouraging Riva to take up such a project and the internet was seen seething in anger.

Comments like “Is she 12 for sure??? Unbelievable that this is even happening” and “She’s going to come out in a few years saying she was groomed by her parents and the industry. Poor girl😔 What the hell are her parents doing?!” also surfaced on the internet.

This is not the first time Riva has been in the news for an age inappropriate video – she was also recently seen in a reel with Karan Kundrra, who is 26 years older to her. Netizens also found a video of hers from when she was 11 that saw her abused and chained to a bed.

Vikram Vedha Movie Review: Hrithik Roshan, Saif Ali Khan & Team Prove Why Bollywood Has Gone Nowhere, You Were Just Diverted By Keyboard Warriors!

Vikram Vedha Box Office Review: Starring Hrithik Roshan & Saif Ali Khan, the film is a perfect successor for Bollywood after Brahmastra.

Vikram Vedha Box Office Review –

Star cast: Hrithik Roshan, Saif Ali Khan, Radhika Apte, Rohit Saraf, Sharib Hashmi, Yogita Bihani, Satyadeep Mishra & others

Producers: Bhushan Kumar, Vivek Agrawal, Chakravarthy, S. Sashikanth & Ramachandra

Vikram Vedha Box Office Review : Expectations

There’s a negative wave against the remakes made in Bollywood. In the recent past, films like Bachchhan Paandey, Jersey and Laal Singh Chaddha tanked at the box office. There are several reasons behind their failure but being a remake definitely worked negatively for all these films. Vikram Vedha too had the same fear surrounding it, but the film sustained well through the hurdle and managed to grab attention through the trailer.

Thanks to the well cut and highly engaging trailer, VV created an air of excitement around it. However, the film didn’t get a deserved momentum due to low key promotions, which took the film in a zone where a thing like bumper opening was missing. However, it looked a like a film which we call “lambi race ka ghoda” at the box office.
