Hyderabad Airport to be revamped by 2023

Touted as one of the fastest growing Indian airports, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport(RGIA) presently caters to about 21 million passengers per year. And, plans are in place to expand the connectivity and be equipped to tackle more passenger traffic.

Once revamped and fully operational, the passenger handling capacity of the airport is likely to be more than 34 million people per year.

The total cost of the expansion project of RGIA is estimated to be around Rs 6000 crores.

GHIAL presently handles a lot of international traffic with newer routes being introduced one after the other.

At present the international airport is spread across three levels covering an area of 15,742 square metres. The expanded part of the terminal is integrated and it has six domestic arrival bus gates. There are also three aerobridges that are presently operational.

The plan for expansion comprises construction of additional built-up area, 149 check-in counters, 26 security screening machines, 44 immigration counters, 44 contact gates, 28 remote departure gates and nine remote arrival gates, too. This will take the total area of the integrated passenger terminal to 379,370 square metres.
