A zoonotic virus Langya has been reported in China, with 35 people infected so far. The new type of Henipavirus has been found in China’s Shandong and Henan provinces, Taipei Times reported. The Virus is causing liver, kidney failure. Know the symptoms about this new virus.

Langya virus patients developed symptoms like fever, fatigue, a cough, loss of appetite, muscle pain, nausea, headache and vomiting. The virus was likely transmitted from animals to human quoting scientists in Taiwan. A correspondence about the new virus by scientists from China, Singapore and Australia has been published in New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM). Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Deputy Director-General Chuang Jen-hsiang said that 26 of the affected patients developed symptoms like fever, fatigue, cough, loss of appetite, muscle pain, nausea, headache and vomiting. They also showed a decrease in white blood cells, low platelet count, liver failure and kidney failure. The authors of the study have underlined that the sample size of their investigation is too small to determine human-to-human transmission. However, they point out that among the 35 patients infected by LayV, there was “no close contact or common exposure history”, which suggests that the “infection in the human population may be sporadic”.The spread of germs from animals to humans, called zoonosis, is common, accounting for more than six of out of every 10 known infectious diseases in people, according to the CDC. Most of the time they cause limited disease, dying out without having a major impact.
